Men's team loses to Ambrose in thriller
The men’s basketball team fought hard in a thriller loss on Friday night against their rivals the Ambrose Lions, the score being 68-73.
Off the jump Briercrest and Ambrose started off in a back and forth game, the Lions picked up momentum and carried this into the end of the first quarter finish at 13-25.
Starting the second quarter off, the Lions looked to push their lead, but Briercrest found synergy and put some closure with the score being 24-29 with 5:09 left in the second. The rest of this quarter was a consistent battle finishing off with a Lions lead 35-42.
In the third, the Briercrest trailed the Lions lead creating a tense and tight game between the two teams. By the end of the quarter the score was 49-58 for Ambrose.
In the last quarter of play the game stayed tight, Briercrest starting to slowly creep up on the Lions. With 2:55 left to play, the game turned into a thriller with the score being 63-66 for the Lions. The crowd intensified, and the game was all who wanted it more. With 21.2 seconds left #10 Amiel Deslos Reyes for Briercrest hit a three and pushed the score to 68-70. #10 Isaac Grey for Ambrose hit 1 of 2 free throws adding to the Lions score which made it 68-71, but Briercrest could not clutch through and lost 68-73.
Player of the game for the Clippers was #5 CJ Greer with 19 points, 4 assists and 7 rebounds.
Talking after the game, head Coach Shane Sowden on the game stated “we started off a little slow, with beating Ambrose twice previously they had something to prove and came out hard. In the second half we started sharing the ball better, working hard and had the communicating and had the momentum but with the turning point in the 3 minutes left just hurt us, we fought, and it was a good game.”
