ACAC Regular Season action begins for hockey, Exhibition schedule continues for other teams
Briercrest hockey's ACAC League schedule begins this weekend while Men's Volleyball, and Men's and Women's Basketball continue their exhibition schedules.
Briercrest Men's hockey will begin the regular season schedule against perennial ACAC contenders SAIT Trojans this weekend. They will faceoff with SAIT in Calgary at 7:00 pm, Friday, October 12 (SAIT 11-BC 1; BC goal scorer Branden Whitehawk, assist Adam Voth), followed by a 2:00 pm matinee Saturday, October 13 (SAIT 7-BC 1; BC goal scorer Branden Whitehawk).This will be Briercrest's first tastes of ACAC competition after completing an exhibition schedule against tough opponents in the University of Regina and Minot State University.
Briercrest Men's and Women's Basketball will be in Winnipeg for the weekend to compete in the Canadian Mennonite University basketball tournament October 11-13.
Men's basketball will begin their tournament Thursday, October 11 at 8:00 pm against the host CMU (BC 109- CMU 71. Gradyn Childerhose 29 points, 8 rebounds; Lucas Mannes 20 points off the bench). Friday, October 12 Briercrest will compete against their first CIS opponent of the weekend in the University of Manitoba at 6:00 pm (U of M 95-BC 86; Gradyn Childerhose 26 points), followed by a game Saturday, October 13 against the University of Winnipeg at 4:00 pm (UW 93-BC 75; Gradyn Childerhose 23 points, 8 rebounds, Kenny Boese 16 points, 5 reb, 3 assts, Matt Myers 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assts).
After a month and a half of inter-squad training Women's basketball will have their first taste of competition in the 2012-13 season with the CMU tournament. They will begin their weekend Thursday, October 11 at 4:00 pm against Red River College (RRC 73-BC 54). They will then compete against CMU Friday (BC 62-CMU 27), October 12 at 4:00 pm and conclude their tournament against Brandon University at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 13 (BU 68-BC 36).
Men's volleyball continues their pre-season schedule this weekend as they travel to Alberta for five games. They will first travel to Three Hills Thursday, October 11 to compete against Red Deer College at 8:00 pm in the neutral ground of Prairie Bible Institute (RDC 3-BC 2; 18-25,25-20,25-11,14-25,19-17). Friday, October 12 they will play Concordia University College at 6:00 pm in the SAIT Main Gym (BC 3-CUC 0; 25-15,25-19,25-13). On Saturday, October 13 Briercrest will compete against NAIT (BC 3-NAIT 2; 22-25,27-29,27-25,26-24,15-12) at 9:00 am in the SAIT Aux Gym and SAIT (SAIT 3-BC 1; 25-23,22-25,25-19,25-20) in the SAIT Main Gym at 8:30 pm. They conclude their weekend against King's (King's 3-BC 2; 24-26,19-25,25-18,25-21,22-20)
