January 22nd Update:

New opportunity for Skill Development Training Sessions in February & March while we wait for Club Volleyball Season . . .

Hello Volleyball Players and Parents!

We hope you are doing well amidst the continual uncertainty in this COVID season – we know God is in control and continue to trust Him as we are continually reminded how little we control in this world during this unprecedented time! We have been thinking about how we can offer some training within this period of COVID restrictions where we have not been allowed to proceed with Club volleyball try-outs and teams as we had planned. With the Sask Government announcement, and subsequent Sask Sport announcement on Jan 19th, the indications are that the current COVID restrictions for sports will continue to the end of March. So, while we hope for club volleyball season to be allowed to start in April (but we are not sure if that will happen or what that will look like), we have designed a new opportunity for volleyball training in the meantime, that is allowed in the current restrictions. This opportunity will be offered through our Briercrest Volleyball Club for any players in grades 9-12 (15u-18u):

We are going to offer 6 weeks of volleyball skill development sessions, starting the week of February 8th and wrapping up week the of March 22nd-27th. We will run skill sessions for 3 weeks in a row, then have a 1 week break during our college’s Reading Week break from March 1-6, and then resume for another 3 weeks of skill sessions from March 8th-27th. In the current COVID restrictions, players age 18 and under are allowed to train in skill sessions in groups of 8 players or less, so we will form skill groups of 8 that will get 2 skill development sessions each week. Many of the sessions will take place on Friday evenings and Saturdays, but we will also have a few session slots on weekday evenings for some groups. We will run the skill sessions at our Briercrest College gymnasium. We have capacity for up to 48 female players and 48 male players, and will accept registrations from players already registered for our Briercrest Volleyball Club try-outs, and then also those not currently registered for club try-outs. Once registration is complete, we will divide players into 6 skill groups of 8 players per gender, that they will be with for their skill sessions over the 6 weeks. We will do our best to keep players of the same age together in the 8-person skill groups, but it all depends on how many from certain age groups register. So, each skill group of 8 players will get 12 skill sessions over the 6 week period (2 sessions per week with 90 mins on-court per session). It is important to note that there are some other key COVID restrictions in place from Sask Health and Sask Volleyball that all players will need to abide by, and will affect what range of activities we can actually do in the skill sessions. Our coaches will design drills/training activities to abide by these restrictions. These current restrictions include:

  • No competition allowed
  • Training allowed with up to 8 Participants at a time (plus coaches)
  • Masks must be worn by all participants at all times
  • Participants must make every attempt to maintain 3m social distance at all times
  • No spectators allowed

With those regulations in mind, all players will also need to sign a waiver form that will be handed in at the first skill session they attend, and will also need to fill out COVID health check forms prior to entering our gymnasium for each skill session. We will continue to be informed by Sask Volleyball and Sask Health as to what we can do in the sessions on-court, and if restrictions lessen during the 6 weeks, we will continually expand the range of activities we can do in training, if and when we are allowed.

The cost per player for the 6 weeks of skill development sessions is $225, which will include registration with Sask Volleyball, as our skill sessions are sanctioned through them. Registration opens Friday January 22nd and will close on Friday January 29th. We will then form skill groups and send out the schedule for the sessions during the week of February 1-5. Then skill sessions will start the week of February 8th. Payment will need to be completed on-line to confirm each player’s registration (the payment process is separate from filling out the on-line registration form). Players will not be considered “registered” until the on-line registration form is submitted and their payment is completed on-line.

If the skill sessions are required to be canceled at some point during the 6 weeks due to increased COVID restrictions from Sask Health, we would aim to make up the sessions at a later date, if that was to be allowed by Sask Health. If we are unable to make up the sessions, we will offer a pro-rated refund to each player (minus administration fees). We are also offering discounts for players who were in our mini-league back in October/November and didn’t get to finish their mini-league season due to cancelation from COVID restrictions. The boys who were in the mini-league will receive a $75 discount as they missed their last few Saturdays of their mini-league, and the girls who were in the mini-league will receive a $25 discount as they missed the final Saturday of their mini-league. Below are the details of how to register and how to complete payment.

To register on-line, please go to the following links:

To complete payment on-line:

  • Use our Briercrest online payment portal at www.briernet.com/payments

  • The payment amounts will be: $225 per player (unless the player was registered in our mini-league for October/November – Boys who were in the mini-league will receive a $75 discount due to not being able to complete the last few Saturdays of mini-league due to COVID, so they will pay $150 per player. Girls who were in the mini-league will receive a $25 discount due to not being able to complete the last Saturday of mini-league, so they will pay $200 per player).

Sask Volleyball Accredited Club December 23rd Update:

Due to the COVID restrictions announced December 14th by the Saskatchewan Government, we will have to postpone our try-out dates until we have permission to do them. We are continuing to accept registrations for try-outs now, and we will extend try-out registration deadline until we have a date confirmed by Sask Volleyball as to when we can host try-outs (when COVID restrictions are opened up again). We hope to host try-outs in January, and will keep the registration form links open through until we have a date set for try-outs.

We will fully refund the $25 try-out fee if we end up not being able to do tryouts. We will also have a clear refund policy in place for the club fees for any player that makes one of our club teams, so that players and their families know what can/will be refunded in case of a COVID shut-down during the club season. We also have a refund policy in place for the player fees, in case of any shut-down due to COVID during the club season (see below for “Refund Policy” under “Fees”).

We look forward to serving you with the opportunity to have high quality volleyball training in the New Year and are praying that COVID will be slowed down/gone to the point where we can run our Briercrest Volleyball Club program!

General Information About Briercrest Volleyball Club:

We are very excited to let you know that we are offering great opportunities for volleyball players in our area to get excellent training (and hopefully competition opportunities as they open up and are allowed by Sask Volleyball/Sask Health) in the months ahead through our 2020-21 Briercrest Club Volleyball Program!

We will be able to offer up to 4 teams per gender (with a max of 14 players per team). We will determine the age categories for each team once try-outs are complete, but this may look like at 15u, 16u, 17u, and 18u team for each gender (but 14u may be considered if there are open spots after the other age categories register). We may also do a combination of those age groups in certain teams.

We will offer high quality development opportunities with 2-3 two-hour training sessions on court per week in our Briercrest College Gymnasium here in Caronport, along with a weight training program (including some instruction on weight training), some classroom sessions, video feedback in on-court training sessions, registration/insurance through Sask Volleyball ($95 per player and coach), access to Briercrest College coaches and players as mentors, and a great clothing/gear package for each player who makes a team.

Fees

The base fee for each player will be $1000. We anticipate the season running from January through into the end of April, or into May, depending on the opportunities and how things open up with COVID regulations. If we end up being able to travel for competitions that are sanctioned through Sask Volleyball and/or Volleyball Canada, we will have additional fees to cover any competition entry fees, meals/accommodations on road trips for coaches, and players will also be responsible for their own meals and accommodations on the road trips.

At this point, we expect any competition that does get approved through Sask Volleyball/Sask Health to be local and 1-day events, so there will not likely be overnight trip expenses this year.

Refund Policy

If the season is canceled due to the Saskatchewan Government requiring us to terminate the season early due to COVID-19, Briercrest Volleyball Club will refund up to 50% of the $1000 player fees. The refund of 50% ($500) will be given if the season is terminated within 2 months of the player fee due date. If the season is terminated after 2 months of training has occurred, there will not be a refund.

Briercrest Club Volleyball 2020-21 Try-out Info & Registration

We will require anyone who wants to try-out for one of our teams to register through the links to Google Forms (below). Try-out fees will be $25 per player (and must be paid on-line at time of registration to reserve your spot). Depending on Sask Volleyball protocols that will be announced, we likely can only have a max of 26 athletes in each session per gym so that we can have 4 coaches per gym as well and stay at a max of 30 participants per gym (our college Gymnasium divides into 2 gyms). The registration is now open, and players must register/pay their try-out fee to be considered “registered”. Our try-out time slots will be determined once we have word from Sask Volleyball that we can run them. We will determine what age groups/genders are going to be in each slot once registration for try-outs is complete. We will send out a schedule of exact try-out times a few days before the try-out sessions take place. We will also send out the COVID protocols for the try-out sessions and the Waiver Form for participants/parents/guardians to sign, along with the try-out schedules.

COVID Regulations

Our club program/teams/try-outs are sanctioned through Sask Volleyball, and so we will be following their COVID regulations, which are in compliance with Sask Health regulations. All players participating in try-outs will need to bring a signed Waiver to be allowed in to the try-out.

Please note the information below from Sask Volleyball regarding “updated residency definition”, stating that players are only allowed to participate on club teams/programs that have their training facility within 150 KM of their permanent residence. You can also go to this link http://www.saskvolleyball.ca/covid-19/ to see the full up-to-date COVID regulations/protocols. Sask Volleyball will continue to update these in response to the latest regulations put out by Sask Health.

Sask Volleyball Updated Residency Definition

  • Athletes and Coaches must declare their Legal Residence address on the Sask Volleyball 2020-21 Team Registration Form. The Legal Residence is residence where you have your permanent home or principal establishment and to where, whenever absent, intend to return. Sask Volleyball can at its discretion request proof of legal residency, including but not limited to official government documents.
  • An athlete may apply for a billeting exemption, which must include proof that the athlete is attending school in a community different than that of their Legal Residence.
  • Club teams must declare the address of their main training centre on the Sask Volleyball 2020-21 Team Registration Form.
  • Coaches or Athletes who reside in one of the Major Centres listed below may not participate with a club team whose main training centre is located within a different Major Centre (i.e. Regina resident cannot play on a team from Saskatoon, etc). Bedroom communities are not considered part of a Major Centre. The following communities are designated as a Major Centre:
    • Lloydminster
    • Moose Jaw
    • North Battleford
    • Prince Albert
    • Regina
    • Saskatoon
    • Swift Current
    • Yorkton
  • Coaches and Athletes may only participate with a club team within 150km of their home residence address.
  • The intent of the Team Composition policy is to restrict participants from different major centres from playing on the same team. This is the main concern that Sask Health has. Therefore, just to clarify, no team will be allowed to include athletes from different major centres.
  • The KM radius for each club team will be measured as per the closest main highway route according to Google Maps.
  • Exemptions for Coaches or Athletes to participate with a club team outside of 150km of their home residence address will be taken on a case-by-case basis. No exemptions will be considered for Coaches or Athletes who reside in one of the Major Centre to participate with a club team within a different Major Centre. To request an exemption, contact Cara Orr at cara@saskvolleyball.ca with a written description of the circumstances around the exemption request prior to registering.
