Briercrest Clippers Volleyball Recap - Nov 4 & 5

Clippers’ defense conquers Thunder’s strong attacks (Nov 4th, Women's Volleyball)

EDMONTON, AB (November 4th, 2022) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder welcomed the Briercrest Clippers for a Friday night match. Overall this game was won on defense, Clippers' ability to recover from Thunder's attacks and launch counters was enough to win the game with a 3-0 sweep.

The first set saw several soft touches from both sides, not too many spikes, the lead changed 5 times with a number of ties although the Clippers took the first set 26-24. The second set started off similarly to the first with it being evenly matched, although the Clippers found weaknesses in the Thunder's game to exploit and found themselves in the second set 25-15. The third set was found in the Clipper's favour once again, through the last two sets the biggest lead for the Thunder was two, but the biggest lead for the Clippers was 11. Multiple times through the Thunder brought the lead down to two or three, ultimately the Clippers go on a run to end the set and the game: 25-17.

The One Team Sport players of the game were #17 Brynn Hardy for the Clippers and #2 Renae Regal with 12 defensive points from the Thunder. We return home tomorrow afternoon against the Medicine Hat Rattlers.

The Thunder brought the storm – but Clippers fight through it (Nov 4th, Men's Volleyball)

EDMONTON, AB (November 4th, 2022) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder hosted the Friday night game against the Briercrest Clippers. A game you couldn't take your eyes off of, both teams playing with high energy, and despite the strong effort by the Thunder, the Clippers walk away with the win 3-1.

The first set was back and forth with at least 6 lead changes and 12 ties with a variety of plays and many blocks, the Clippers find the first set theirs 26-24. In the second set, we saw Thunder doing everything right finding a seven-point lead and reaching 20 points. The Clippers fight their way back 23-20. Despite the late set rally by the Clippers, the Thunder battled back and took the set 25-22, tying things up 1-1. The third set had runs for both teams, starting with the Clippers finding a four-point lead. Following that Thunder came storming back for a four-point lead of themselves. Ultimately the Clippers grab four consecutive points to end the set 25-23. In the fourth set we saw high energy on both sides, with the Clippers in control for the most part. Briercrest held off Concordia to take the last set and the game 25-22, and the final scoring being 3-1.

 The One Team Sport players of the game were #11 Karym Coleman for the Clippers with 19 kills in the game and #5 Wyatt Turnbull from the Thunder with equal amounts of offensive and defensive points. (13-13). The Thunder will take on the Medicine Hat Rattlers tomorrow afternoon for their second battle on home turf.

The Kings University Eagles Take On The Visiting Briercrest Clippers (Nov 5th, Women's Volleyball)

The Kings University Eagles take on the visiting Briercrest Clippers. 

In their first set, the Eagles come out exhibiting solid strategic plays and phenomenal defence. The Eagles take the first set 25-11. 

During the second set, the Clippers begin to fight back. However, the Eagles stay calm and continue playing how they do best. The Eagles win the Second set 25-17. 

In the final set, the Clippers bring on more aggression and are able to take the lead early on in the set. The Eagles responded back and won the set 25-23.

MVB TKU Eagles vs BC Clippers (Nov 5th, Men's Volleyball)

The Kings University Eagles hosted the Briarcrest Clippers on Saturday, Nov. 5.

The first set was tightly contested as both teams fought for the lead. The Eagles came out on top to win the set 25-23.

The second set was similar to the first with the lead traded several times. The Eagles once again won the set 25-23.

In the third set, the Clippers rallied back to win the set 25-22.

In the fourth set, the clippers dominated as they took the set 25-15 to force a 5th set.

In the final set, the Eagles prevailed to win the set 15-8, winning the game 5 sets to 3.
