Clippers snap losing streak and defeat Trojans

Clippers defeat Trojans

Caronport, SK. February 28th saw the Briercrest Clippers Women’s basketball team hosting the SAIT Trojans

SAIT got out to an early 7-1 lead. It was a low scoring opening quarter that saw the score at 9-3 halfway through because good defense was slowing down the pace. The Clippers would come back, tying the game up at 12 and eventually taking a 14-12 lead into the second. 

Both teams played good defense and it was another low scoring quarter. The Clippers extended their lead to 6, up 18-12, and lead 22-17 with 5 minutes to go in the half. The teams went back and forth, with Briercrest slightly ahead, taking a 29-28 lead into the half. 

Starting the second half, the teams were evenly matched with the score tied up at 35 in the opening minutes. Briercrest was solid on both ends of the floor this quarter and took a 52-43 lead into the final quarter. 

In the fourth, the Clippers pushed their lead to 12 up 58-46. SAIT would close the gap to 6 with 5 minutes left in the game, but the Clippers lead 70-60 with 2 minutes left. SAIT called a timeout and narrowed the score to 70-64 out of break. Briercrest would hold on however for a 71-64 win! 

The player of the game award for the Trojans went to #9 Morgan Rolfe, who recorded 10 points and 9 rebounds. For Briercrest, the award went to #23 Angenay Williams who had an impressive 42 points along with 15 rebounds and 4 assists. 

After the game, Williams had this to say; "I think SAIT played tough, really good defense but we played hard and we're trying to finish out the season in a good way". 

The Clippers are back in action tomorrow in a rematch vs SAIT @1pm in the hangar.
